Group in odd numbers
Vases look better in threes than in pairs, and better still when the three are different heights. A tall piece, a mid-height one and something low reads as arranged; two matching vases reads as symmetrical, which is a harder thing to pull off.
Empty is fine
A handblown glass vase with colour through it is an object in its own right. It does not need flowers in it to earn a place on a console or a dining table.
