Ottomans and footstools for Sydney living rooms and bedrooms. An ottoman is the most useful piece in most living rooms — footrest, extra seating, and a soft coffee table once you put a tray on it.
Getting the height right
This is the measurement worth checking before you buy. Used as a footrest, an ottoman should sit level with, or slightly below, the seat cushion of the lounge it serves. Used as a coffee table it wants to be a little lower. Used as extra seating at a dining table it needs to match chair height.
Shapes
Round ottomans work well in tight rooms and in front of curved seating, with no corners to catch on the way past. Rectangular and bench ottomans suit the end of a bed or the length of a sofa. Small ottomans pair up and tuck under a coffee table when they are not in use.
Scale it to the sofa
As a rough guide, an ottoman used with a lounge wants to be around two-thirds the length of the seat it sits in front of, with 40 to 45cm of walking space between the two.
